I got into a discussion today about the word 'The' in the context of band names. When asked what I was listening I correctly replied with The Stills. My mate said 'I'm not familiar with them'. All well and good but he then said this: 'Saying that, they're a 'the' band, so they're probably shit'.
Now, this enraged me. I was told that there are loads of bands in the world called 'The... (insert random plural here)' who were shit and shouldn't be listened to. My friend then seemed to imply that cos of this case that practically all bands with 'The' in their name are shit.
Well thats just a load of fucking bullshit. Sure, lots of bands include 'The' in their name, but that has absolutely no revelence on whether a band is good or not. To use a blanket belief that 'the' bands are shit just because some 'the' bands are rubbish is just nonsence. It's like assuming that cos George Bush was an absolute moron then all Americans are morons (which isn't true, every america I've met has always come across as very intelligent).
I really wish there wasn't a blanket belief that 'the' bands are shit. I'm not denying that none of the are shit, (The Feeling, I'm looking at you here), but just cos some are doesn't mean that all of them are (The Smiths or The Cure anyone?).
End of rant.
